    Description

Located in the bright and colourful Tsim Sha Tsui district, this restaurant is known as the “First Indian Vegetarian Restaurant” in Hong Kong, and has been serving up Indian delights to hungry consumers since 1981. The menu here boasts an array of South Indian classics whose recipes have been perfected over the decades of the restaurant’s existence.

The Thali is an excellent way to get a taste of Indian cuisine. Colloquially known as “banana leaf rice”, this dish consists of white rice served with an array of traditional curries, including Sambar - a nutritious lentil stew, and papadoms. The white rice is is the perfect base to enjoy the different flavours and textures of the curries. For something a little lighter, opt for the Idly. These savoury rice cakes are made by steaming a fermented mix of black lentils and rice, and served with accompanying dishes of your choice.

Curious diners who venture beyond the rice dishes will find a filling meal in the Channa Bathura, a whole-wheat fried bread served with a spicy curry. The fried bread is simple and tasty, and not too greasy, so even the most health conscious of diners can indulge without fear. (Feb 2019)

"Opened in 1981, Woodlands is famed for its authentic thali (a platter of various curries on a round metal plate used in India for both formal and informal meals), which are served with poppadoms, pickles, raita yoghurt and is a great choice for first-timers or just the indecisive." -Hong Kong Tatler
