    Description

Mexican joints seem to be all the rage these days, but to find a restaurant which does an array of authentic Mexican dishes deliciously is not that simple.

    Enter Caliente.

As expected, traditional Mexican favourites form the bulk of the menu. The Chicken Quesadilla is a hearty and satisfying mix of chicken, bacon bits, sautéed onions, red peppers, mushrooms, and green chillies in a flour tortilla. Served with a healthy dollop of guacamole, Pico de Gallo, and seasoned sour cream, this is an instant favourite. The Shrimp Enchiladas are mouth–wateringly delicious. A whole shrimp, green chili filling, sour cream, and cheese enchilada sauce are served with rolled corn tortillas on a bed of Mexican rice. The Lamb Skewers are another highlight. Tender Australian lamb rump is grilled till succulent, while the cilantro pistachio pesto gives an added zing to the dish.

Round off the meal with either of the desserts on the menu. The Churros are fried dough fritters dusted with cinnamon sugar and are perfect for dunking in the generous serving of chocolate sauce. The Mexican Fried Ice Cream is rarely seen outside of Mexico. A test of culinary skill, breaded vanilla ice cream is deep–fried, followed by further culinary acrobatics as it is doused with flaming brandy and raspberry sauce. Delectable Mexican delights abound at Caliente, so don’t be surprised if you make a return visit (or three)! (Jan 2017)

    The Buzz

“Tsim Sha Tsui’s patron saint of Mexican food is the colourful Caliente, which offers everything from nachos to churros and everything in-between. Be sure to try the Taco Mil Mascaras with its perfectly grilled red shrimps or the Taco Tito Santana, which oozes creamy, rich bone marrow. Both come with mixed cheese, crunchy taco slaw, pico de gallo and mint avocado crema to smooth things all out.” -Time Out Hong Kong
